foursquare helps you find new ways to explore your city. See where your friends are, learn about the places they frequent and unlock rewards as you travel through the city.
foursquare is now available worldwide.
Has potential
by R1S1 on March 11, 2010
Very clean app and love the idea just needs more control of personal editing for your profile. But otherwise great app!
Crashes
by joshpaul on March 11, 2010
I'm not certain what changed from the previous version, but the most recent update crashes constantly and is unusable.
Meters?
by cfanyc on March 11, 2010
Appearance wise, I prefer the previous darker theme. Not sure why distances are Meters. Also, some kind of feature needs to be added for Mayors, a Mayor should be able to do something others can't...Also Venues need to start implementing simple Mayoral rewards, free items, etc. Foursquare is cool, it's just a bit lacking in areas.
Prettier, but slower
by Rage88 on March 11, 2010
Definitely prettier (4 Stars), but it's definitely slower and has already crashed on me (2 Stars), so that's a 3-Star rating from me.
The UI update is really cool
by Stéphane Rangaya on March 10, 2010
Much more easier and user friendly, I really love it.
Really Great App!

Much better UI
by madmax7776 on March 10, 2010
Compared to last version, this update is really a great improvement, however it still lags behind Gowalla in the "prettiness" department.
Love it!
by hottoq on March 10, 2010
Love the new look and feel! This is the next big thing, check it out now before it explodes into the mainstream!
Nice App!
by xcarloseduardox on March 10, 2010
A criative and very simple to use!
Awesome
by mysoulishome on March 09, 2010
Really fun, makes the places you go (from errands to hanging out) a game! And a fun way to share your travels (check-ins) with friends. Can't wait to see what updates the future brings.
4 stars
by f.trainer on March 09, 2010
Foursquare has made some amazing progress in the past year and as with all quickly growing social networks you'll find the occasional glitch but overall it works like a charm.
Addicting!
by HeyShanny on March 05, 2010
Love this app! Love being Mayor of all my regular places. Reading all the user tips is great when trying out new places. Wish you could include pics with check ins.

Boring

Cool
Dumb
by Boody calla shot balla on February 25, 2010
Tried and don't like it. How many more social apps do they need to make? Isn't anything new mind as well just update your facebook/twitter status or text your friends and tell them were you are! Badges are pointless, better apps with reviews of places all seems to repetative and has been done. Dislike
Non functional
by RagnarDannejskold on February 22, 2010
This app is useless. Downloaded it only because TechCrunch covers it far too much. And had to see what it was about. Fadsquare.
A lot of fun
by Dowhead on February 22, 2010
I'm addicted! I can't wait to see how they will expand.
not bad
by Ben&jerry123 on February 21, 2010
Its pretty good, but loopt is good too..not sure which is better yet
Great little app and fun
by Djtonnema on February 21, 2010
Not sure why some folks are having some performance issues but I am having a ball with this. Being competitive and earning "mayor" badges and discounts at local areas is just plain fun. Enjoy!
It's better than 'Law School 100'!
by Bar Examiner on February 21, 2010
But it's not as good as "MPRE"!
Very Cool
by BlackRail on February 20, 2010
This app has tons of social networking potential. The only part I dont like is how hard it is to find friends that use foursquare. Also it took me a while to understand the UI. Also would like to see a way to tie into my birding hobby.
More annoying than it's worth
by zyzzyva23 on February 20, 2010
While I agree that many aspects of Foursquare are just plain silly, I really like the underlying base of it. That said, this app is annoying.
This app would be far less annoying if a) push notifications could be turned off on a per-spot basis (instead of all or nothing) and b) they could be turned off on a distance basis. I really like finding out that my friend is up the street and wants to hang out, but sometimes he's across the country. And then I have that one friend who checks in every time she takes the bus or goes to bed. Would be nice to have a "cafes and bars only" option and a "within [x] miles" option. Otherwise, forget it!
AMAZING!
by Mark T. Emery on February 20, 2010
I frequent bars a lot and the mayor of
Whatever bar that is usually ends up getting free drinks from other foursquare users. Get your friends in on this and have a blast! This app is FAN FREAKIN TASTIC!!!
It's just ok
by p. picasso on February 19, 2010
it can never locate me and often puts me in a different city. totally annoying. crashes and is slow. not really worth the trouble. and why do I have to go to the website to load my avatar pict? it's an app for the phone, let me do it from my phone. that's kind of a duh, guys.
Works great!
by nightcasino on February 17, 2010
I am enjoying this app. I only wish you could upload a photo on the phone fit your profile pic.

The Game Element is Silly
by gculliss on February 13, 2010
I can see checking in to let your friends know where you are, but the idea of getting points for doing so seems useless and silly.
soooooo great
by sweet_pete on February 12, 2010
How anyone could not like this is beyond me. It is loopt but actually fun and with a purpose!
ehh
by johnnybravoSF on February 12, 2010
fun a few times, but then i just don't care about badges or being a mayor.
Keeps crashing on 3G
by Ctrlvsoption on February 11, 2010
Am unable to indulge in the app as it keeps crashing when it connects via 3G. Foursquare, did you even test the app properly? Works great on wifi, but it's meant to be a mobile app!
Meh, try Gowalla
by TheBox193 on February 09, 2010
Thus is alright, adding locations is a bit buggy. Tips idea is cool. I would recomend trying Gowalla, vey similar but much nicer IMO.
great concept, great app
by rsmith_uk on February 08, 2010
nicely done. clean UI. crashes too much. fix that and it'll be 5 stars
Very fun, needs some work
by Hyperchicken on February 08, 2010
Its incredibly addicting checking in at all the stops I make throughout the day. They need to have a better way to correct some venues though, I've found quite a few in my area that have the wrong address or they have no address at all and it is mapped in the wrong area. Would also be nice to be able to add tags to venues from the app itself instead of having to do it on the website.
Overall though, its very enjoyable to use, works very quickly even when I'm off 3G in EDGE coverage.
foursquare is fun
by carrotickie on February 07, 2010
the concept of foursquare is fun but i think the app's badly made. it's like they didn't really put in much thought and effort in building it properly. :(
IN LOVE!

I love Foursquare, I check in EVERYWHERE this is so fun :-)
Makes going out a game!
by Shikagizu on February 06, 2010
Meet your friends when out and about, compete to be the Mayor of your favorite places, unlock achievements. Foursquare is the next big thing, beat your friends to the punch and grab this now!
Hey, I'm the mayor around here!
by Srey71 on February 05, 2010
Haven't tried Yelp or Gowalla but this app is working for me. Location aware apps are the next big trend.
Log in fail
by Houseofpearl on February 04, 2010
I became instantly addicted only to be let down by the fact that I suddenly CAN'T LOG ON via the iPhone ap thus rendering this ap useless. I only had 2 days of use and now it keeps asking me to 'log in' but then it says 'log in failed'. BOO.
From MySpace...to Facebook...to Twitter - NOW 4sqaure!
by Buttrflylace on February 02, 2010
You can't get easier as to see what friend is where and while they check in to where they are they can tell you a fast hint about something they like or suggest to try...example "@LAC try the Island Smoothie"! Great updates on friends and fast too. NOTE: iTouch users like myself must be somewhere with WiFi access to use this app.
4SQ is fading
by Noah Plumb on February 01, 2010
Sure, they've got business deals in the works and are getting some great exposure. No doubt these guys will make money.
I was very excited about this app when it had little or no competition. Also, when it was novel. It's not anymore. It's not worth getting my phone out every place I stop so that the app can gives a new badge.
Early on, I wished Yelp would buy Foursquare. They did the next best thing. Yelp reviews + Yell checkins add actual value to reviews and community.
When you're bored after a few monks foursquare, come on over to Yelp where the water's warm.
Great concept!
by exfatty on January 30, 2010
Foursquare is the next big thing. Discover cool new places around town, fight for mayorship of your favorite haunt, see where your friends are hanging out and earn badges while u do it. Some businesses even offer specials, discounts and freebies for users and mayors! Get out there and canvas your town with Foursquare!
Just plain awesome!!!
by Girlelt on January 27, 2010
I'm totally addicted!
Foursquare Frenzy!!
by vinceeeV on January 26, 2010
I love Foursqare!! It has great potential and the future looks bright. you need to be able to edit the names of Venues though. Also you shouldn't be able to create new venues of ones already created.
I am the master of my city
by Blackstatic42 on January 26, 2010
I can't put this down!!! First I will map my city then the world
Foursquare the missing link
by Slightlyfamous on January 25, 2010
I think Foursquare is the missing link inbetween tweets. It allows one to give follows a glimpse of what goes on between tweets, which can be quite alot.
Given 4 stars as I would hope to see Foursquare being able to post to a blog like Wordpress.
Needs some work on UI and alerts
by Media Baron on January 25, 2010
Foursquare's main competition seems to be Gowalla. The interface is very plain compared to Gowalla's eye-candy interface with cuddly buttons, icons and menus.
Foursquare also suffers from problems with alerts which I can't turn-off when friends check-in, I keep getting alert. Also the UI for typing forces users to keep hitting the CAPS button to turn-on capitalization when typing in a place name whereas Gowalla defaults to Title Case Caps (caps on all first letters).
That said although the virtual rewards of Gowalla come much more often in the form of virtual goodies you can pick up or drop off at spots Foursquare's concept of being a mayor of a location makes more sense. It may let a business reward mayors with tangible rewards at a business location. Also I always have to log into Gowalla on the PC later to make adjustments to the size of the spot and nudge the location whereas Foursquare plays a bit looser with GPS locations making adjustments not necessary, though having to type in the whole address is a bummer if I only know part of it.
In short. Foursquare is a better concept, Gowalla has prettier interface.
Having fun with it...
by SCL1971 on January 24, 2010
so far so good...
Simply Fun
by H.Henning on January 23, 2010
Excellent social game. I like checking in and sharing my location with my friends. The selective status updates is also very handy because it allows you to stay private if you wish.
No fun when its unusable
by EyesAreMosaics on January 21, 2010
1) Won't connect to Internet though all my other apps can.
2) Won't let me add a restaurant ("venue") from the app, apparently I have to do it from their website. Huh?
These two things make it unusable much of the time, though I am in a major city. I downloaded this and Gowalla at the same time, and while I'm rockin with Gowalla, I'm getting mostly frustration with Foursquare so far. I'll keep at it for a while to see if there are improvements, while simultaneously using Gowalla, and Yelp's "check-in" feature. May the best app stay undeleted!
Needs some work
by questforQ on January 20, 2010
For an idea that is all about being mobile, we should be able to adjust our settings in the app and shouldn't have to go to the website. I have pictures on my phone that I want to upload but you have to do that from a computer. Maybe I'm spoiled from all of the great Twitter apps.
Love it!
by JenNjuice on January 20, 2010
My friend got me hooked. He lives in Chicago and I live in Denver, so the race is really on for the badges and points. However, it gives you the option to add other people who play, friend or not. I am sociable, so I add people even if I don't know them. For everyone complaining, it's a free app, so delete it if you don't like it. It suits my easily entertained life just fine, and I do recommend it.
Meh....
by jason2001 on January 18, 2010
It's boring and plain looking...Gowalla is much better looking and functions better. However, I like the mayor idea and being able to use it in real life for specials and stuff at businesses.
Too many issues
by ParticipantX on January 17, 2010
90% of the time it can't connect to the "Internets" when I'm at full bars (3G & wifi). When I do connect it just hangs. Awesome. Additionally I can't even access account basics like my profile. Requiring a visit to a website is pretty lame, IMO.
Might Be Great for People in Big Cities
by Airguardim on January 16, 2010
I'd love to try this in a big city, but I don't live in a big city. If you're looking for a similar app that easily lets you add locations anywhere in the world, you should take a look at Gowalla app.
Checking in!
by Schnarf78 on January 15, 2010
With all of the updates, and the growing number of users, this is still one of my favorite apps. I like it much better than Loopt!
Not connecting to Twitter anymore?
by Eumpz12345 on January 15, 2010
Anybody having this issue now? It won't link to my Twitter.
foursquare vs gowalla
by Ah_ha on January 14, 2010
I've been playing with both foursquare and gowalla and prefer gowalla.
foursquare currently has the benefit of more users; but, as I don't live in a major city both foursquare and gowalla have few users, therefore I'm sticking with gowalla because I've found it easier to use and prefer how it looks. If you're curious about foursquare, try gowalla too, (they're both free).
(I think foursquare is to myspace as gowalla is to facebook.)
Thumbs Down
by GirlByTheSea on January 13, 2010
Not in many cities, too much media hype about a product that in no way delivers. Extremely difficult to play outside the US, where addresses aren't the main source of determining locations. Horrible UI. Ugly & worthless.
Fun with your friends
by Willard Q on January 13, 2010
The more people you get to use this app with you, the more fun it becomes. My friend Jason got me started and I immediately started stealing mayorships from him. Then we got Ken playing and he tries his best. Il-Sun is scared to try. Great app!
It just keeps getting better!
by bbrewerg on January 12, 2010
Foursquare now works around the globe and with this release (1.5) you can selectively post your check-ins to Facebook! Keep up the great work guys! I love it!
Game-changer!
by SYS 64738 on January 11, 2010
Works great on my iPhone 3GS, as well as my 3G (RIP). And for those who haven't been up on foursquare's updates, you can now check in from anywhere, not just certain cities!
Some people play for leaderboard bragging rights, some for mayorships, and some for badges. But everyone keeps in touch with where their friends are, and are enticed to explore their area and try new things, thanks to tips you can leave at venues.
If you're worried about some users gaming the system by checking in at venues where they're not, then their problem is actually deeper than should worry you. Just be honest with your own checkins. The fact that you don't have to have a GPS smartphone means more people can play and connect!
Changing How We Use Cities
by dymod on January 11, 2010
Foursquare, like Twitter, takes a little while to get used to, but at some point you will experience that "Aha!" moment where you realize its true brilliance. It allows you to experience our cities and share your favorite places and things with friends in real time. It's full of tips and hidden surprises that make you want to go out and check in more often. Do something!

Feels cheap and shabby
by Suntrade on January 06, 2010
I installed this after hearing glowing reports from techcrunch and Kevin Rose on twit. I am not impressed. The Layout is craigslist-bland. I don't even need to be at a location to check-in, so what is the point of being "mayor" of a location?
I will check back in three months and see if there is improvement. I like the concept, but Gowalla does the same thing but looks much better and you have to be very near a location to check in.
App called me cheater for doing what they want you to do: check-in!
by Rpadilla on January 03, 2010
Today I uninstalled Foursquare after it called me cheater for "too many check-ins". I was handing out business cards at a strip mall and decided to check-in from each business and add them to FS. After entering a couple, I got the friendly warning and no points but they kept the new business for their database. Finding you using gps is flaky and entering businesses is cheating? Don't waste your time like I did, get Gowalla instead, it is more precise, you're not tied to a few cities and they respect users!
Great for circle of friends
by Artvark on December 29, 2009
This is a great app! Even better with a group of friends competing against each other!
Meh.
by jkennett on December 28, 2009
I agree with other posters. Gowalla is better.
Super buggy
by happydude on December 24, 2009
Super buggy. Hasn't worked all week due to it not being able to connect to the Internet. Hope they're working on improvements.
Fun for the iPod Touch
by stresslessone on December 23, 2009
I've been using this for several months: NYC, LA. It's fun to check in, send shout outs, create to dos, tips, get badges, & become mayors at fav spots. And the developers are responsive when you need assistance.
Deals
by ScottScottScottScott on December 20, 2009
I like how venues offer deals when you become the king, or have a certain amount of check-ins of a specific spot.
iPod Touch useless after update
by MN55419 on December 19, 2009
As a game, this has become iPhone centric since the update. Points are no longer awarded unless you are geolocated near your checkin site. Not always possible with Touch that requires wifi. Okay app if you just want to tell your friends where you have been or make recommendations (and vise versa).
Early Adopter
by Dklimke on December 19, 2009
I think apps like this could be the next big thing and hopefully there will be as many FourSquare clients as there are Twitter clients. I'm almost always the first to check in at any of the locations I visit but I see the potential and cannot wait until every city has been "Tagged" for inclusion on FoutSquare. Spit & Polish the app a bit more and it's easily a 4 star idea!

by thelarry8675309 on December 14, 2009
Listen to everyone else Gowalla is better. I signed up for FourSquare only to find out that my city Charleston, WV was not supported. Why? Then I found Gowalla. It works in every city plus their iPhone App is beautiful and awesome. Give Gowalla a try first.

by Crazee E on December 10, 2009
Great basic ideas keep adding rural locations so I'll keep watching it
Gowalla is way better
by turk1077 on December 10, 2009
I've been using Gowalla for a few weeks and figured I had better see what all the hype was about Foursquare. I am totally not impressed. The UI is unattractive and not intuitive. Hardly any graphics of any true quality. App crashed first time I launched it! And there is a lot of plain old junk in it. Like a location called "in a limo on the way to U2". Gowalla has a clean intuitive UI, cool graphics, and an actual game built behind it. And for some reason, it doesn't have a lot of junk in it, even though most locations are user created. Gowalla is way better than Foursquare.
Early stage in my area
by Dacoach89 on December 10, 2009
It looks like it's new to my area. I hope more establishments get lined up around here.
Having fun with it other then typing in all the new info, so I guess I'll keep blazing the 4 Square trail.
I know someone in Chicago who is picking up free stuff all the time, that's what I'm gunning for. 4 Square 4 Food!!!
Fun app if you live in civilization
by Master of None on December 08, 2009
If you live in a real city, this is a fun app. I must admit, I'm a little freaked out by adding people I don't know to my friends list on this app. Now these weirdos know where I am. But it has come a long way from the original release--more cities and less crashes. I dig it.
Cool app

Great to use when you and your friends are in a place like Disneyland for talking to each other and competing for points
Where's Cleveland?
by dankbkl on December 07, 2009
Come on? If you are going to have a version 1.X, you should have the largest regions in the US. We may not be a "Top Ten", but we are still one of the larger markets in the country. I can understand limiting your cities for a beta or a 0.X version, but for a production version?
No city for me.
