Decent idea, buggie

Using both website and app I stumbled across many bugs with the functionality. It needs to be ironed out more before I use it anymore.

Twitter + Loopt

I forecast that where foursquyare is now is where twitter was 1 year ago. This app is bound to be one of the most downloaded for 2010. Goodwork foursqaure team.

Crashes too much, but could be cool.

5 crashes before I could checkin. But cool idea. Should be fun.

Super buggy

Super buggy. Hasn't worked all week due to it not being able to connect to the Internet. Hope they're working on improvements.

Good app, except for the crashes

Check-in somewhere already in the db, great experience. Try to add a new location, however, and your mileage may vary. Seems to crash every single time on my 3GS.

I like it, but I'd LOVE it if more people were on it.

So far foursquare is a 5 star concept with 2.5 star execution. I think it will get there eventually as more people get onboard. The app is pretty buggy, although not so bad that it ruins the fun. What does ruin some of the fun is the fact that only 2 of my friends are playing. Once more people get on board I can see this being huge. For future versions, I would like to see more badges, weekly, monthly and yearly rankings and some kind of GPS based anti-cheating scheme.

BEWARE you will end up in Google Search

If privacy is important than beware! My first and last name ended up in Google search even though I used an my last initial for my profile! Now right under my business link in Google says I'm lame and 'well hasn't done ANYTHING yet!' Caps are theirs not mine Looks totally unprofessional for my biz. Wish it would go away. Had to delete my account :-(

Crap.

Crashes waaaaay too much, could barely log in before it went all Hindenburg on me....

Exciting Opportunities!

I hope more businesses get involved and pay attention to new Mayors and offer discounts or something. Great social possibilities here!

I love being the mayor!

Having fun with the app so far. Here in the LA I have had to add about 90% of the venues I check-in too. Now that add venue crash bug has been fixed the fun level increased and I'm getting a ton of points for the new venue adds. Looking forward to seeing comes next for this great app!

Game changer

The game is the secret to location social networks

Beautiful combination

Foursquare does a great job of being a fun nightlife game, a notification system for when my friends are near, and an excellent recommendation engine for what's nearby. It's delivering the promise of location aware applications made so long ago.

Pretty pretty badges.

One of the most fun social apps for the iPhone. I haven't had any crashes or problems to speak of! I just wish more of my friends were using it. How else am I supposed to lord mayorships over them? ;-)

Foursquare is um....

Awesome!!!!!

Crashes

I'm not certain what changed from the previous version, but the most recent update crashes constantly and is unusable.

Crashes

Have yet to do anything because it crashes every time I try to check in anywhere.

keep crashing!

can't use it!!!

Good idea, but crashes

Crashes every time I try to add a new location -- not fun.

Keeps crashing before I can actually do anything.

Thereby it is useless.

Fun times

Great app, fun, like the tips for various places. Not really that buggy actually. People need to learn that sometimes it's their own phone. Try resetting it. I have big time company apps like movies, facebook, and safari crash more than this. Anywho, it's fun and free. Cheers.

conceptually good, stability bad

Looks like this could be a winner but... This released 5 months ago and is still very buggy. I hope there is a big update in the works.

Crapware

Crash crash crash boom

Bombs on 3.0

Can't add new places which limits the usefulness of the app. Looks fun though.

Fun way to keep track of your friends

Foursquare beats other Location-reporting apps because it uses a thorough database of locations, and because it handles friend lists sensibly and with granular control. It's an app with real-world rewards.

If it would just stop CRASHING!

Much like a more polished Scribular. Except, of course, that Scribular doesn't crash every time I go to check in... Sigh.

Foursquare Rocks

Fun app with push notification. Shows tips, nearby venues all with a helpful scoop of social networking.

keeps crashing

Everytime I want to "check in" the app crashes. It has been this way since day 1. My check-ins do get updated though. I thought this was supposed to be the next killer app from SXSW. Ends up being the dead iphone app.

Needs an Update last month!

Shows potential. Crashes a lot.  cause I like the idea of foursquare.

Id love it...

Except I can't get past the registration since I can't choose a city because there is no list of cities, it just says choose a city

Where's Cleveland?

Come on? If you are going to have a version 1.X, you should have the largest regions in the US. We may not be a "Top Ten", but we are still one of the larger markets in the country. I can understand limiting your cities for a beta or a 0.X version, but for a production version?

Crashing

Constantly crashing on my 3g. Trying a reinstall. We'll see if that helps.

Great potential

This could be a killer app. There are many things I'm sure the developers already know to add and bugs to fix. The one I will mention : need to open up social aspect. The fact that you can only add people you 'know' is pretty worthless. There's real value in the virtual community. If I see a tip from a user I don't 'know' but like his tips, let me add him. Leave it up to him to accept or not.

Don't waste your time.

I want to like this app, but I can't. The app frequently crashes on iPhone 3gs. The check in procedure never lets me check in where I am. And the tips offered are inane. I miss dodgeball, guys.

great for social butterflies and barflies alike

great for meeting up with friends (or avoiding foes). no need to set "quiet" hours as there are no pesky text messages every time a friend checks in. handy for locating businesses nearby, which is nice if you're outside your regular neighborhoods. earning badges on this app is far more fun that it was in the scouts!

Works well with Twitter

Sign up process doesn't work on 3.0

Try it, it's totally broken!

Could be awesome, but it's not.

This little app had a lot of potential, but is choke full of tiny annoyances. One of the biggest being that there are certain things that can only be done on the iPhone app and others that can only be done on your computer. For instance, if you are out at a new restaurant and try to log in, you might find the restaurant is listed as a venue... you can't add the venue from the app, you have to log in online... which is extremely annoying to do without a computer... but if you create the venue from your computer, you have to go back to the iPhone app to log in. What?! You would think it should be easier to add check in locations to their service for other users to enjoy.
The big reason I finally decided to quite using the service was when I saw that foursquare had twittered a location I checked in to EVEN THOUGH I HAD MARKED IT AS PRIVATE! It wasn't even supposed to show up on the timeline, much less get sent out on my twitter. I felt this brought up major privacy concerns, so I'm deleting this app.

Enjoying the App

Must say that during a big conference, this App was fun and helped me meet up with people and all that good stuff. Probably not as good when I am in a town by myself, but great for large groups.

Frequent crashes after reset

I usually take the reviews citing frequent crashes with a grain of salt, but this app is seriously under-developed. It's free, so whatever.

Works Great in Boston

Fun app if you've got friends who'll use it too. A couple of suggestions (that will make the next version so I've been told)
1) FB Connect
2) Add venues on the phone itself
3) More badges (adding your own)
4) More cities

It'll be nice to see what other users are at the same venue even if they're not in your friends list. Maybe you can and I'm just overlooking it somehow.

please add more cities

I live in New Orleans also and very much want to use this.

If you added the ends of Long Island, NY, it would be awesome

Please add the forks of LI, NY, many people and my friends out here have iPhones and would enjoy this. Otherwise this app is really cool :-).

Looks great but please add more cities

I live in New Orleans so this app is useless to me. Could you please add more cities.

Dodgeball on steroids

Yes I realize it's a 1.0 app missing crush list phone to phone invite over SMS yet it's faster and more accurate in finding locations than Brightkite solid app with great promise join the revolution today

This is my Favorite Application

I use this application more than any other. It is, hands down, my favorite.

Brilliant idea, terrible iPhone app

Foursquare is awesome -- I wish I could actually play the game. But this is the crappiest, crashiest iPhone app I've ever downloaded. I'll try again when they release the next version.

A fun way to see your Peeps' activity

A nicely done app to share good places close by, leave comments and broadcast your location all while collecting points and show up on the leaderboard.

Confusing UI and pointless features

I tried very hard to love this app but it is one frustration after the next. The developers clearly rushed this out.

Always freezes when locating

Always freezes my phone. Doesn't work well for club scene

Not interesting...

The product is really kind of boring. Uninstalled of in a day... Hope geolocation stuff is better in future applications

More locations

Portland Oregon and Corvallis Oregon PLZ

Great Concept, Add More Cities!

I live in the 5th (or 6th, depending on to whom you listen) largest city, Phoenix, and we're not on the service. In our neighboring city, Tempe, we are home to a university of more than 60,000 students. It would be nice to be included, especially when cities whose potential nightlife isn't nearly as good. Please add us and other great cities that have so far been left out. I'll be happy to use the app whenever I'm in a city that's currently served, but I'd love to use it all the time! Great app, & I'm very much looking forward to its expansion.

Love this

Super fun way to find & stay in touch with your friends while out & about! Highly recommend.

Easy easy easy

Download App, signup, check in and make friends. It tweets out your location and you can even use SMS to update your location if your not in a data covered area or stuck on EDGE. Love it. Simple, easy, effective and oh so meta.

If you know what's up

This is the app that turns going out into a HIGHLY COMPETITIVE adventure and a wealth of new experiences. It also helps you see who of your friends are nearby. Will it be banned? I hope so. THEN I CAN WIN. At life. This version is fairly basic but I'm convinced it will be exponentially better as time progresses!

It rocks

Foursquare is better than an angry camel in a car. Maybe even TWO angry camels in a car! Seriously.

Turns life into a massive multiplayer mobile social bar crawl

From the creator of Dodgeball and his wily co-author, Dennis and Naveen bring the joy of goldfarming to the 4D space of reality. Who could argue with xbox-esque achievements for real-world activities. This software (provided that you live in a supported city) turns going out for the night into a competative sport.

Crashes on iPhone 3.0

Potentially fun app, but often crashes when locating and *always* crashes when trying to add a new place. It's also missing a bunch of places in Boston, so that's not really a good combination with the crashing. Hopefully a 3.0 version will be out soon.
