This game looks like a lot of fun, but on my iPod Touch 1st generation, it crashes before I can get into the game. Waste of $0.99 in my case.

DELETE NOW. freeverse and other developers have put a spyware that can see your iPod/iPhone's informations. ie your name,gender, birthdate, your EXACT coordinates of where this app was launched and closed. **** you Freeverse.
Beautiful game, great graphics, fun to play.
Freeverse did a great job with this game. The graphics are well-designed...this is the game you pull out to show your friends the power of the iphone. The sound effects are funny and keep you entertained. Factoring in the price, this game is a must-have.

I think it would be better to tap once on an area of the screen where you want the grunts to go and they go there, without having to hold your finger down. Having your finger constantly on the screen blocks out a good portion when you are looking for enemies to kill. This critique however, wasn't enough to drop the rating below 5 stars as it truly is a 5-star app.

Crash bug makes it unplayable
Game looks awesome. I'm a Cannon Fodder fan so I was really looking forward to this game. Training level works just fine. But anytime I try to start the real game, it just crashes the dashboard. I feel like I just paid for a borring training level. Please fix this.
This app contains Pinchware spyware...
at no point are you told what the pinchmedia enabled application is doing, at no time are you given an option to "opt-out", you have no control over when the data is sent and what data is sent.

I completed sarge vs snipers, then went to select mission, clicked on a blank space in front of it, and it started sarge vs tanks, after I completed that, it didnt show the next level , and I keep replay sarge vs tanks. plz help!!!!

Buyer Beware
Can't get past the initial Swamp training mission (23 seconds). Crashes when attempting to play a new campaign and does not retain previously entered nickname/user when restarted. Not even worth 99 cents. Ripped off.
Grunts
Why does every games that I downloaded work perfectly except this one? I have downloaded close to 200 games on a jailbroken iPod and this is the only game I wasted $ on. Everyone I know that paid for this game all said it also won't play on their iPod. We all might as well had just set on $ on fire. Please fix this or your rep may ruin how people view your titles in the future.

The game concept is awesome. I love it. The downfall of this game is the controls. I think it needs two joysticks. One on the left for moving your troops and one on the right for the direction that you fire your weapon. You can put the special weapon up at the top right or left and then when you click on the special it allows you to click on the screen to throw. Or instead you could just double click on the screen to use your special. Sniping and the binoculars should be controlled by the joystick because the whole click and drag is extremely sensitive.
I also don't like the fact that the enemies start firing at me when I can't even see them. Other than that the game is pretty fun.

Rock Solid Fun
Update: The controls are ultimately what ruins an easily 5-star game. The latest update helps, but what's really needed is a minigore/idracula double d-pad system w/ tapping only on the secondary weapon.
Controls aside, this game totally delivers! Graphics are top notch, but it's the sounds & comical storyline that make it so fun. Great to see a game like this that doesn't take itself so seriously. Gameplay quickly becomes challenging though the level/objectives are rather short - not that I've made it through the game yet. Training missions quickly get repetitive on replay. Worth the money hands down!
A fair Cannon Fodder copy
Cannon Fodder is one of my all time favorite games and Grunts is the closest thing to it on the iPhone/iPod Touch at the moment. The controls and viewing mechanism need some tuning and the score cards at the end of each level are really repetitive. The graphics and sound are nice. Grunts is a good game for only $0.99.

Please give this game a D-pad option but above all MAKE A SAVE SYSTEM!!!! This game simply can't be given a perfect score if you have to restart from the very begining every time you die! Great for a buck a control pad would make it a bit better since your finger gets in way but still fun. Go for it

Was really fun until the zombie level.
All of a sudden, out of nowhere I'm supposed to defend against dozens of zombies for an unspecified amount of time? With a special weapon I've never seen before which seems to self destruct after an unspecified amount of time? This level was difficult and so random that I gave up. I might have kept at it if the game didn't kick me back 5 levels to reattempt it.

Controls are a little difficult to manage, especially special weapons. It's difficult when offscreen guys can shoot you but you can't accurately shoot at them.
Despite the controls, the game is a pile of fun. I miss Cannon Fodder from the old days and they've captured the feel very well. Graphics and sound are top notch. Definitely worth a buck or two.

two things to add
if you could only add mutiplayer where players could fight each others squads to the death in various game modes that would be awsome. and the other thing is that u could add new weapons like a flame thrower etc......

Too hard
This game is extremely hard to beat. It's so hard to kill tanks, because you can't move and shoot at the same time. Even on easy, you die way too fast. I am okay with the control scheme, but they need to add some sort of run and gun ability. I suggest not buying this game.

Terrible control ruin the game
The way the game is controlled is terrible. It ruins what would otherwise be a good game. The graphics look pretty good and the concept seems like it would be a lot of fun, but the controls ruin it.

Great graphics, lousy gameplay
Keep getting slaughtered because I can't activate the special weapons in time or because it thinks I'm trying to look around when I'm really trying to run. The grunts take way too much damage; facing one tank kills more than half of them off, and since you can't fire at a tank unless you're standing still, you're a sitting duck. Finally gave up and deleted the game because its impossible to make any progress. Save your $$ until they make a game that is playable for more than 10 seconds at a time.

U could call in for reinforsments, u could get up to hold 5 or 6 guys, u could be able to get a machin gun but on burst mode, and be able to change the voices instead of a high squecky voice u could change it to a normal cool army voice...

Fun game. Graphics are nice, play is smooth. The game does not save however. So I am choiced with: 1. tutorial or 2. ridiculously hard zombie survival. Frustrating, because this could be a winner.

Campaign won't work on an unlocked phone. I know it says so on the page but I thought only a few were experiencing probs. It seems like a fun game

This game reminds me so much much of Cannon Fodder, but it is different in many ways. Strange Flavour always makes excellent games. Wish: Airburst on iPhone! :-D
Funny, cool concept, but tired of alpha testing games on the iphone
This game is at the stage where you have some cool mechanics and concepts, but you're not ready to put it out into the wild. The controls really need some work. They are laggy, there is very little feedback. AI can shoot at you from a distance much further than you can see. AI can shoot while moving, you can't. This stuff needs to get worked out before you start charging people for it. Not up to other Freeverse software I've seen. The comedy is there and the overall concept is solid, but right now this thing feels like a university project.
Poor Canon Fodder Clone
Contrary to those who think this is an original idea, it's in fact a blatant rip off of one of the best action/strategy games of the 80s and 90s, Canon Fodder (1 & 2). Even the music is "inspired" by the original.
However what's sad is the developers of this game ruined it by the poor controls. A game is made or broken by it's controls. The whole idea of having my finger all over the screen blocking what i'm try to see in the first place is gets annoying fast. The firing mechanism is also cumbersome with double tapping. The original Amiga/PC game was brilliant in using a free firing mode with the right mouse button while moving. If you can't replicate that then you're not thinking hard enough.
Sadly with crappy controls and mechanism of interacting with the items I'll probably play it for a good 10 minutes before filing it under "frustrating" and "close but no cigar". As a fan of Canon Fodder series, it's a tough swallow to play a poorer implementation 15 years later...

Can't seem to put it down.
Suggestions
1. Ability to save
2. Make the tutorial levels separate from the campain levels. Pain to have to replay tutorials every time you start a new campain.
3. Ability to move while shooting
Even with it needing these changes I still love playing....

This app is great, it reminds me of meowcinaries on adult swim. One suggestion though. Make it so that you can shoot while running. Maybe you should make the controls like iDracula which are good controls. When there are better controls I will add an extra star. :)
Polished and Fun
I like the control scheme. This is an arcade style game and the AI is appropriately simple.
It is difficult on the default difficulty, but I view that as a plus ( there is an easier difficulty in the settings. )

Could be a lot better
This game has a lot of potential. The graphics are top-notch, the gameplay is good, but the thing that keeps it from being great, in my eyes, is the difficulty. It's just way too challenging for me to enjoy. The controls are alright, it's just you can't move at all when shooting, which leaves your soldiers losing too much health very quickly.
This was one of the few games I actually waited for to come to the App Store, and I was honestly a bit disappointed. I think with a few tweaks to the gameplay, difficulty, and maybe controls, this could be an great game.

Volume?
This gameplay is great, but every time I finish a mission it sets the phone volume back up to what it was when I opened the game. What's going on?
A game that lacks imagination and has simplistic (boring) game play
From reading the game's description and some of the reviews, I though Warpack Grunts might be a worthwhile little tactical shooter. Unfortunately it is an unimaginative game that appears to have been quickly put together. The console scheme is awful, the graphics and sound affects are amatuerish, and the game play is VERY simplistic.
Update for 1g ipod touch crash
Ok, my ipod was jaybeed. I restored the original 3 firmware and the game works great. I've since jaybeed again and it's still working.
Great game for the money. I only wish the enemy AI was improved. I'm a cannon fodder afficionado and enemy soldiers just walking in straight lines or standing still is just odd. but this ain't cannon fodder. Still getting a star docked for that tho!!

The inability to see because your finger is in the way and the fact that you can't move and shoot ruined this game.
Fun gameplay, flawed controls
This is definitely a fun game with potential to be sure. The graphics are enjoyable, the explosions look good, and the storyline is comical.
As others have said, your finger really does get in the way of seeing what is going on. If this control scheme could be changed to something less obtrusive it would really ratchet up the experience to another level.
In the end though, it's still a good game. It just had room to improve.
